Darrell Lea takes its role as a good corporate citizen very seriously. The Darrell Lea Kogarah factory is located adjacent to a residential area, therefore we employ the best technology in pollution control and have a system in place to respond promptly to the concerns of residents if and when they arise.
Darrell Lea has installed high temperature odor control equipment, a waste water filtration plant, a cardboard recycling program, noise control equipment and regular acoustic site surveys. All employees are required to park on our site to prevent cars blocking residential premises in the adjoining streets. We are very conscious of our environmental obligations.
A very important initiative has been our water conservation program whereby we are currently using 40% less water for production purposes. We expect this figure to be improved on a continuing basis.
Darrell Lea Chocolates is committed to respecting and protecting the environment. As part of this commitment, the company became a signatory to what was formally the National Packaging Covenant and now the Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) in 2010, an industry initiative aimed to reduce the environmental impacts of packaging. By meeting its APC packaging objectives, Darrell Lea will play an increasingly active role in the reduction of waste material to landfill.
The packaging covenant plans and activities have the full endorsement and support of the Board and Management of Darrell Lea Chocolates. Please click here to view the Darrell Lea Action Plan March 2011 - March 2015.
